The Beer Essentials opened in October 1994 in Spanaway, Washington in a 960 sq. ft. store front. We have continued to grow our business since its inception.  In 1996 we purchased one of the area's oldest beer and wine making stores - The Lil' Brown Jug - in Tacoma. Since that time we have consolidated the two stores into one 3600 sq. ft.central location in Lakewood,Washington by the north end of the McChord Airbase runway.

Since that time The Beer Essentials has become the largest Homebrew and WineMaking store in Pierce County.  In fact we believe we have one of the largest selections of beer and wine supplies in the Puget Sound Region. 

We carry over 32 different specialty grains, 6 types of base malt and over 20 different hop varieties. We carry White Labs liquid yeasts as well as several different brands of dry yeast.

For winemakers we carry RJS Craft Winemaking Wine Kits and Vintners Harvest fruit purees and wine bases.

We also carry soda making supplies, cheesemaking supplies and mustard making supplies.  And locally sourced honey.  Yum!

As a small family owned business we firmly believe that by providing our customers with quality ingredients, fair prices, exceptional service and knowledgeable staff we can pass along the great art of home brewed beer and wine making to our customers, helping them become more proficient and thus happier, more satisfied brewers/winemakers.
